The Yang Won Sun Foundation supported architect and Architectural Association (AA, London) PhD candidate Jang Hee Lee's research and educational initiative, Communal Block: The Housing Question of the Korean Apartment, as part of the YWS Project.

Held in Seoul in July 2026 as part of the Architectural Association Visiting School (AAVS) Seoul, the ten-day workshop examined the Korean apartment as an architectural, social, and historical phenomenon. Bringing together participants from Korea and abroad, the programme explored the history of Korean apartment housing while reimagining new forms of collective living through research, design, and discussion.

The workshop outcomes were compiled into a bilingual Korean-English publication and shared online, creating opportunities to introduce Korea's housing culture and urban environment to an international audience. By connecting historical research with contemporary design practice, the project fostered dialogue among students, researchers, and architects across different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds.

Through its support of this project, the Yang Won Sun Foundation contributed to expanding international perspectives on Korea's urban culture and encouraged meaningful exchange through architecture, research, and education.
