The Yang Won Sun Foundation is pleased to announce that Kim Ho-yeon, a leading contemporary Korean writer, will serve as the first resident writer for the Korean Writers in Residence Programme at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, from March 16 to June 5.

The Korean Writers in Residence Programme was newly established with the support of the Yang Won Sun Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Korean Studies at Jagiellonian University, led by Professor Renata Czekalska. The programme aims to foster deeper engagement with Korean literature and culture through sustained exchange among Korean writers, students of Korean Studies, and the wider academic and cultural community in Poland.

Kim Ho-yeon is a prominent Korean author whose work spans fiction and essays. He is widely known for his bestselling novel Uncomfortable Convenience Store, as well as Uncomfortable Convenience Store 2 and My Don Quixote, through which he portrays the everyday lives and human relationships of contemporary Korean society with warmth and sensitivity. His writing has resonated with a broad readership and continues to gain recognition both in Korea and internationally.

As part of the residency, Kim Ho-yeon will undertake a three-month stay in Kraków, during which he will participate in lectures, writing workshops, student mentoring, and public programmes hosted by the university. Through these activities, the residency seeks to create meaningful opportunities for literary dialogue and cross-cultural exchange.

This inaugural residency marks an important milestone for the Korean Writers in Residence Programme, and the Yang Won Sun Foundation looks forward to supporting its continued development and future collaborations.
